Open Roads

Have you ever felt the need to explore, unwind, and hit the road without having to adhere to any schedules?! Amber and I did just that for her birthday vacation with the Poconos as our final destination.

Road trip essentials...I believe the perfect road trip has good music, snacks, drinks for passengers, comforters, and stops along the way to experience other places outside of your hometown. And let's not forget parks and mountains always need exploring.

I also think this whole "spontaneity" led to over packing. I stick to my Girl Scout motto...always be prepared.

First stop along the way was a bakery. How cute is this place?! Too bad they only have cupcakes to purchase by appointment only.

Amber loves seafood so who am I to deny especially when Doc's Oyster House was across the street from our hotel?! And that fishbowl was lethal!

After drinking a fish bowl we were supposed to share, I took a 4 hour nap. When I woke up, it was after 9pm AND we were officially late for karaoke. According to google, it was supposed to be a popular hang out spot in the Poconos...

We ventured into Jason's territory with NO street lights while Siri took us on a wild goose chase...

We finally pulled up to the bar after 11pm to find out a) they have no karaoke and b) their kitchen closed at 10pm. Just great being as though my fish bowl needed to be fed. Cupcakes for dinner that night!

The first thing on my mind upon waking on Saturday was coffee. Amber does not drink coffee, but she was a good sport and visited Northern Light Espresso Bar & Cafe with me.

How could I not stop by here and blog when this is displayed on their home page, a certain liquor which they call
coffee..which will intoxicate the brain. SIGN ME UP!

We then explored downtown Scranton and ran into...

Next stop: The Pool at Mt. Airy Casino Resort. Amber's goal was to be pool side, mine was to put a dent in Between the Cover's September read. I think we both succeeded.

Unfortunately, moonlight rafting was sold out. So on Saturday night we did spa treatments in the room - facials & body scrubs while music blasted from the bluetooth speaker.

As we were walking across the parking lot of our hotel to go to dinner, we saw a baseball game being played and the most gorgeous sunset...

Dinner was followed by more drinks (are you noticing a theme here?!) and girl talk by the fire pit at our hotel before we ventured back across the parking lot (can you tell our hotel was in a prime location near a shopping center with lots of entertainment options?) to go to the movies after 10pm (we are both typically in bed by then) to see Southpaw. What an AMAZING movie!

After the movie, Amber didn't like my game I was trying to play as we packed...let's see who can drink the most drinks in the cooler so we can fill it up with the extra stash. What a spoil sport. Ha!

This is a new resort in the Poconos and upon seeing it in person, I may just be on board with my mom - she is dying to take the kid here.

I LOVE to end my vacations with spa treatments, so I booked appointments for us at the Woodloch Resort on Sunday. Who can resist massages, pools, saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools?!

On the way home, we stopped by Lake Wallenpaupack (and climbed up & down a trail in sandals and sundresses) - how gorgeous is this?!

Guess who spotted this ice-cream cone from the highway?! Guess who made sure we stopped so we could indulge in some home made goodness?! This girl!

I was simply amazed by the beauty of nature we encountered...

This was an amazing weekend filled with lots of laughs and quiet. I think we both needed to just be still in order to decompress a bit. And the best part, I did NOT go crazy while sitting in a car over 90 minutes and I am even willing to venture a further distance for another road trip.

Where should we go next year? I vote Nantucket or Hilton Head Island!
