Oh Kyle...the person who has taught me how to effectively maximize my tv viewing time to ensure I get through my extensive schedule EVERY week. The trick is in the snacks and wine. I kid, I kid...but these things are essential to our viewing pleasure. AND to all my friends...you should thank Kyle. Because since he keeps up with me and my schedule, I no longer hound you in regards to watching on time. AND we sometimes watch together for commentary. BUT if you want to know the trick. NEVER watch live UNLESS it is your favorite show OR if you want to read the live tweets. Most shows are ONLY about 40 mins once you cut out commercials, so instead of watching 3 shows per night, I can easily squeeze in 5 to 6 depending on my level of exhaustion.
With the 2017-2018 Fall TV Season halfway through, Hallmark (Up and Lifetime) holiday (K: don’t you mean hollyday? H: you are so right!) movies complete, and mid-season shows getting ready to start, Holly and I thought we’d dive in to the shows we love and the shows we love to hate. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a show you like you’d never have expected to watch in the first place!
There are SO many shows we can’t get enough of in so many different genres, including but not limited to our medical dramas (Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Med, The Good Doctor), our primetime soap (Dynasty) , dramas (This is Us, Ten Days in the Valley) and military dramas (Valor, The Brave - H: wait, did you officially quit Seal Team??? K: Yup, after the first episode). You’d think we had all the free time in the world. And let me tell you, we most certainly do NOT!
There are also a bunch of shows I watch (reality competition shows, sitcoms, etc) Holly doesn’t watch, and vice-versa, a bunch of shows Holly watches that I don’t. And then there are the shows we get each other into! Be prepared, there’s a lot to talk about!
Kyle: Let’s start off with Ten Days in the Valley. A new drama on ABC this season, that has already suffered the ABC curse of moving to Saturday nights. It definitely won’t be around next season, but we’re already so invested and just NEED to know what happens to Lake. The show features Kyra Sedwick, who many might recognize from TNT’s The Closer. Ms. Sedwick plays Jane Sadler, a television producer whose daughter goes missing in the middle of the night, while she was in her shed working and getting a delivery from her drug dealer. The story follows Jane’s search for her daughter, Lake, as she works with the local police department, her family, and her ex-husband.
Holly: Hold on Kyle...let’s pause for a moment...we need to take a moment of silence here to discuss Severide’s back as he slid down the ladder on Chicago Fire...FIRE DEPARTMENT CALL OUT!
K: You’re obsessed! I can’t speak too much to that though, I don’t watch Chicago Fire. My only Chicago show is Chicago Med!
H: And let’s not forget...Taylor Kinney is NOW single. We should take a trip to Lancaster to find him for me. AND you should totally binge Chicago Fire..but on to Ten Days in the Valley. I am NOT sure I love it. I watch it because you make me. I would love for them to get to the climax so it can be over already...what day are we on now?! EIGHT?!
K: I believe it’s eight. Maybe this is one of those shows we love to hate. I kind of agree with you on this one, I’m ready for it to be over. And honestly, I wouldn’t have remembered it was on after such a long hiatus if I didn’t rely so heavily on my DVR to automatically record these things! And technically, we did get to the climax since Lake has been rescued. I am just so curious to know who the kidnapper is! (Sidenote: speaking of shows that have been canceled, did you read about “The Mayor” on ABC being canceled and pulled from programming? I’m so glad we didn’t invest in that. I’ve watched an episode here or there, but usually it gets deleted from my DVR before watching it!)
H: Soooo 2 more days to go. Blahhhh...and nope, I did NOT read about The Mayor. It never made my list.
How about a round of rapid fire? What are your fave new series premieres? I am pretty sure mine are Dynasty, The Good Doctor, and Valor. I am also pretty sure I am missing something.
K: I’m OBSESSED with The Gifted on FOX. I like The Good Doctor, but nowhere near as much as you do. I’m not sure there are many other new shows this season I absolutely LOVE, aside from The Gifted. I’d have to think about this one.
H: This is where I pout...WHY have I waited SO LONG for The Royals to come back...WHY do I now have to continue waiting until March...and WHY did you JUST start watching it?!
K: Ugh! It’s SOOOOO good. I can’t wait to watch more. But at least with it not coming back until March, that gives me time to binge and catch up! Since that’s an older show, we’ll have to reserve some time later to discuss shows of the past that have been canceled that we loved! I’m sure there are so many (R.I.P. The Client List and Devious Maids)!
H: And let’s not forget Ringer!
But there is also some things REALLY bothering me Kyle. Like am I really supposed to accept Tom is dead on The Blacklist. AND Quinn on Scandal??? I guess I can cope with Quinn’s death since Mama Pope is back and it IS their last season. Thank goodness Shonda heard me and gave me a shirtless AND suited Jake on the premiere episode. BUT Tom...yeah no, Liz and Agnes need Tom!
K: I totally forgot about Ringer! That was a good show. And Sarah Michelle Gellar. I just love SMG.
I think you’ll have to accept Tom is dead. I haven’t followed The Blacklist in a season or two, but I generally know what’s been happening. Apparently the twins that play Agnes live in Cinnaminson, where my parents live! And I’m still NOT convinced Quinn is dead on Scandal! I totally feel you on shirtless and suited Jake though!
What about the fact that a major character is leaving Chicago Med!?!? Didn’t they pull this shit on us last season and say a major character was leaving, and then someone apparently left and we didn’t even realize or know who the character was?!?
H: Never forget...Liz was supposed to be dead too.
I wonder if Chicago Med’s writers will take suggestions in regards to who is leaving.
K: True. But I think Tom is officially dead. Remember that awful spinoff show they did with Famke Jensen? Tom is as dead as that spinoff! LOL!
I WISH they would take suggestions. I need Dr. Sarah Reese GONE! She’s so annoying and it just keeps getting worse. From her changing her residency midway through the program (which you AREN’T allowed to do, to all of this drama with her issues following Dr. Charles’ attack. I can’t…I just can’t.
H: They shut her ass down from buying a gun though - to protect herself. I giggled at her “assertiveness”.
You know what is really bad...for the life of me, I cannot remember the fall finale of Grey’s...but I do remember I am enjoying it again this season.
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...HOW DID JACK DIE???
K: Yo. I died when she tried to buy that gun. Like… she’s supposed to be a doctor. Did she really think she could just go into a gun shop and buy a gun without a license?!?!
Hmmm. I don’t know if I can recall the Grey’s fall finale either. Oh wait. It was when Jo’s ex-husband showed up! I can’t wait until that comes back to see how it all plays out! And the computer systems at the hospital were hacked. I feel like that happens on EVERY medical drama we watch these days!
And Jack who? I’m racking my brain to remember what show has a Jack in it! OHHHHH. This is Us, duh! Yea, we need to find that out this season. I think I remember hearing we’ll find out before the season’s over, hopefully sooner than later. But you know it’s gonna be in the last two minutes of the season finale. That’s how they keep us coming back...saving the most dramatic stuff for the last two minutes of every episode. I mean, they also keep us coming back because of Milo Ventimiglia and Justin Hartley. *SWOON*
H: Oh yes, that’s right. Jo better not get Alex into any more trouble. I almost died not knowing if he would have to go to jail.

I may be the only one here BUT the only Pearson I am currently a fan of is Randall’s. Kevin & Kate have been on my nerves ALL season.
K: That was the worst when we didn’t know if he was going to the big house! I vaguely remember us texting when we were watching Grey’s live together waiting to see if Alex was going to jail!

And I totally agree with you on liking Randall right now. Kevin is annoying with his drunken/drug escapades and Kate can just never make up her mind about what she wants. Like, why would you go sing right after finding out you miscarried? That will never make sense to me, but I guess everyone has their own way of coping...
Speaking of coping, I’m wondering what’s going to happen next on The Good Doctor. Didn’t something happen in the fall finale where Sean ran out of the hospital or something? I can’t remember. I think I’m at the point in my life where my memory is just shot. Or I watch entirely too much TV and the plots of different shows intermingle in my brain!
H: Ummmmm yessss - he smacked Dr. Glassman, his mentor, because he didn’t want to see the therapist, right????
K: YES! I think you’re exactly right. I’m remembering the episode now where the parents of the autistic kid didn’t want Dr. Murphy to operate on their son. And then they were like, “oh, it’s fine”. HA!
H: That episode made me so mad for so many reasons. Let's not even get me started.
You know what we missed this holiday season...although it was NOT all the hollyday movies...we need more Gilmore. LIKE who is Rory’s baby daddy?! I NEED TO KNOW.
AND let’s not forget Fuller House - who would have thought when we were kids Kimmy would end up being Stephanie’s surrogate. Also, I am totally over the Steve & DJ thing...if they don’t just get married already and have a baby.
K: Totally agree. I would die if ASP came out with another season. She needs to get her shit together.
OMG! Fuller House. Now that’s a show I love to hate. It’s so bad that it’s so good! I’m sure Stephanie’s saying in her head, “HOW RUDE”, that Kimmy is her surrogate. And I was cracking up laughing when Gia was like, “oh, i’ll do it”, but 5 minutes later when she found out she couldn’t drink or smoke she was totally out. And I liked DJ with Matt! I’m wondering if he’s leaving the show?
We’re in a time where revivals are the thing. Fuller House, Will & Grace, Roseanne...I’m sure there’s more!
H: KYLE!!!! I cannot believe I forgot this death...DESIGNATED SURVIVOR. Alex is dead...you know, because the actress signed on to another show. BUT what is President Kirkman going to do?!
K: Holly… again, another show I don’t watch! I gave it a season, but then never got back into it. I do love some of the actors on there though - Maggie Q (formerly of Nikita and Stalker) and Italia Ricci (formerly of Chasing Life). If you haven’t watched Nikita or Chasing Life, I would check them out. OMG! Speaking of Chasing Life, which was on ABC Family (now Freeform), can we PLEASE discuss our FAVORITE summer show, The Bold Type?!?!
H: *hangs head* So I suppose there is no point in discussing Madam Secretary, SVU, or Blue Bloods. What about S.W.A.T.? Did you give up on that too? AND I am still waiting for your to binge Good Behavior - you now have TWO seasons to watch!
K: Probably no point in discussing them…I’m still on S.W.A.T., but I’m like 3 or 4 episodes behind.
Is Good Behavior the show that was on TNT? I remember adding it to my list, but I don’t remember actually watching it. Speaking of TNT shows, did you ever finish Animal Kingdom?
And I DO remember your blog post about The Bold Type, I just wanted to mention how much we LOVE it!
H: Yup, it is on TNT and it is OH SO GOOD! I never finished an entire episode of Animal Kingdom. NEXT!
But uhhhh...are they shooting new episodes of The Bold Type now?! Because I am READY!
K: When you get on Animal Kingdom, I’ll watch Good Behavior.
H: Well, it is a good thing Maya watches Good Behavior with me because Animal Kingdom is a NO!
So for mid-season premieres I have Chi, Quantico, Shades of Blue, Taken, The Paynes, The Haves and Have Nots, If Loving You Is Wrong, The Quad, Divorce, and THE ROYALS. I THINK that is it. What do you have to add to your existing schedule?!
K: I have a lot for mid-season I think! 9-1-1 (which started last week - so good!), By the Book (I can’t recall what this is about, but it’s on my list), Quantico, The Crossing, Deception (not to be confused with the Deception with Meagan Good), For the People, Splitting Up Together, Alex Inc., A.P. Bio, The Awesome Show, Champions, Genius Junior, Good Girls, The Handmade Project, Reverie, Rise (this is the show I was telling you about based on the school in Levittown - I’m so excited for this one), The Resident, LA to Vegas (which also started last week, pretty funny), iZombie, The Originals (the last season), Black Lightning (super excited for this), and Life Sentence. Oh, and The Magicians, which starts this week. I’m obsessed with that show! OHH! The Chi and The Royals. What else is there? I feel like there’s so much more! Totally forgot about Homeland. I’m a season behind on that though. Guess I have to catch up!
H: Oh yes...I am watching 9-1-1 and The Resident too!
But uhhhh...I take it you won’t be reading any books with me this year with that extensive list, huh?! Lol!
K: If you find something as good as One True Loves, I’m totally game for reading a book. Did you read Lauren Graham’s book yet? Maybe we can read that one together! But let’s not talk about books, this is a blog about TV!
H: Funny you mentioned One True Loves, since I am about to start another book by Taylor Jenkins Reid. And yes, I read Lauren Graham's book last year - hated it. Still working on Anna Kendrick's.
AND what do you expect from me Kyle - I AM a Libra.
K: You’ll have to let me know how it is! I loved One True Loves!
H: Will do...so let’s wrap this up because we both know we can talk about our shows ALL day...and we sometimes do.
K: We totally do. Everyday. Well, most days. Okay, final thoughts. What show are you sad is over? And what show would you revive that’s been canceled? (As I pull up my 2016 fall tv calendar)
H: Hmmm...I need a time range...like of all time or just from last season?!
K: Let’s go with the last two or three seasons… I’m sad that Devious Maids ended. That was OUR show. Every Sunday night, without fail, we were watching! And I would totally bring back Mistresses. That was our guilty pleasure!
One final thought from me, UnReal starts the end of February! Woot! And if I remember correctly, we have a female suitor. Bring on the eye candy!
H: I am still thinking. For some reason Revenge, Ringer, Gossip Girl, and 90210 keep playing in my head. BUT I know there is something within the time range you provided soon. Maybe I will have an answer for you by the time we write up another blog for season finales. Lol!
I forgot all about Unreal!

For those of you that made it this far, we salute you! Not many people can handle our constant back and forth over TV. We hope you decide to give a show a try from the many we talked about, not that we really gave you much plot or premise to any of them! But maybe, just maybe, our commentary was enough to pique your interest.
Let us know if there are shows you think we need to tune in to! We are always open for more. Happy viewing!
