So where were we on our summer reading list?!
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
I was definitely on the fence about reading this, however, social media raved about it incessantly. So I dove in to 480 pages...and found myself perplexed. WHY would a letter EVER be this long to answer one question? Yet I loved the feminist theme and how women supported one another.
The Summer Guests by Mary Alice Monroe
EVERY summer I fall in love with a book by this author...except for this year, which left me disappointed.
Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey
Let's start with the title here...FIX HER UP???? Uhhhh, excuse me?! Why does a woman need to be fixed up??? Why do we settle for less than we deserve instead of demanding our worth??? Let me climb off my soapbox...but yeah, didn't like this book too much either. Are we noticing a trend?!
The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez
Now The Friend Zone was exactly what I needed to pull me out of my reading rut. I was captivated by the characters and I am interested in what happens next with Sloan. I also may have yelled at Caren for not preparing me for some triggers in this book. *cues waterworks*
Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson & Ellen Hagan
Not that I play favorites or anything...but THIS BOOK spoke to my soul. Between their playlists (Write Like a Girl Top 10 & Mending a Broken Heart - does anyone want to show me how to create these playlists on my phone???), their blogs, and boldness illustrated...I could NOT get enough.
Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes
Sometimes in order to find your rightful place, you have to start over...and this is ok. This was a perfect note to end July's reads.
